Children's Dentistry

It is important to establish good toothbrushing habits early, so we welcome children to attend the practice every 3-6months depending on their needs.

Dental Hygiene

Diane is very passionate about teaching children how to maintain healthy teeth.

We work with the children in a fun and relaxed way, teaching them how to brush their teeth and gums in an effective way, giving them lots of hints and tips to make this a fun thing to do at home.

A good well balanced diet is essential to avoid tooth decay, we talk about reducing the frequency as well as the amount of sugar to help keep their teeth healthy.

Fissure Sealants

Fissure seals are a glass like material which are placed on teeth with deep fissures on the biting surfaces. The seal forms a smooth surface on the tooth making it easier to clean, therefore reducing the chances of tooth decay by up to 51% according to the research.

Fluoride Varnish

Applying fluoride varnish to tooth surfaces is one of the best options to prevent tooth decay. The evidence shows that by applying fluoride varnish at least twice a year it can reduce tooth decay by up to 43%.

Fissure sealants and fluoride varnish can be applied during dental hygiene visits.

Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation (MIH)

MIH is a condition which effects the enamel and dentine layers of molar teeth and incisor teeth, 1 in 5 of the UK population are thought to have MIH with differing severity. Like white spots, the cause is associated with chronic infections, high temperatures and medications as a baby or young child, premature birth or low birth weight baby.

Once diagnosed, a treatment plan can be put in place. Molar teeth that are affected (usually the first molars) focuses on restoring broken down or weakened teeth, with special filling materials that release fluoride to strengthen and protect enamel. Fluoride varnish is applied at dental hygiene visits, high strength fluoride toothpaste and mouth rinses are often advised to use at home.

Front teeth can be treated for any staining of the enamel with tooth whitening, followed by aesthetic bonding to correct any defects and improve the overall appearance.
